State Police took a man into custody after a vehicle pursuit through Cape May County that lasted more than hour Thursday night.
Police said the man was reported missing by his mother Thursday night after she could not contact him, and she was worried about his safety.
She told police her son was bipolar and was not behaving normally after a recent medication adjustment, police said.
After attempts to stop the unidentified 23-year-old driver in Woodbine when he was initially located at about 9:20 p.m., police said, they followed the man through Woodbine, Dennis Township and Upper Township for more than an hour.
Police said the man, a resident of Dennis Township, continued driving at or below the posted speed limits during the pursuit.
When he was successfully stopped, police apprehended the man, and he was taken to Cape Regional Hospital for evaluation and treatment of his medical condition, police said.
Police said they also found less than 50 grams of marijuana in the vehicle.
The man, whom police declined to identify, was charged with eluding, driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also was charged with several motor vehicle violations that occurred during the pursuit, police said.
Those violations were not released.
