An Atlantic City man died early Monday in an altercation outside Culmone’s Bar as it was closing.

Police responded to reports of a fight involving several men with bottles outside the bar about 2:15 a.m. and found Jose J. Alejandro, 42, on the ground and unresponsive.

He was pronounced dead at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus.

Patrons inside the bar Monday afternoon had not heard of the attack. Staff that was there overnight had been questioned by investigators.

This is the second fatality on the block in less than a year.

On July 29, Alfred Kessleski was beaten outside his apartment building on the opposite corner, after walking home from the Ducktown Tavern, across the street. He died Aug. 2, never regaining consciousness. Jonathan Perez, then a month from his 18th birthday, is charged with murder in that attack. He is being tried as an adult.

This is Atlantic City’s 10th homicide this year. Results of an autopsy performed on Alejandro were not released Monday.
