One day after most Atlantic City casinos reopened for business following Hurricane Sandy, a Gloucester County man hit a $1.5 million jackpot on a penny slot machine, officials said.

The Franklin Township man won Saturday night at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa while playing a machine that offered a progressive jackpot, casino officials said. The man, who did not want to be identified, had taken a weekend trip to the resort and won the $1,484,852.57 prize on the “Godzilla on Monster Island” machine, according to the casino.

Borgata was among the 10 casinos that reopened to the public Friday after being ordered closed for five consecutive days because of Hurricane Sandy. Revel resumed operations Saturday and Atlantic Club Casino Hotel is expected to follow suit today.

According to the N.J. Division of Gaming Enforcement, which recently began publicizing high jackpot wins, the last time a million-dollar-plus jackpot was awarded was Aug. 2, when $1.6 million was won on a “Million Dollar Rewards” slot machine at Bally’s Atlantic City.
