A Mays Landing man was convicted by a jury in Atlantic County Superior Court on weapons and drug possession charges.

Fuquan Gillard, 29, was stopped on Jan. 15, 2013, when Hamilton Township police suspected him of drunk driving.

As a result of the traffic stop, police found Gillard in possession of 497 bags of heroin and a loaded .45 caliber handgun.

He was taken to jail in lieu of $100,000 bail, and indicted by a grand jury almost three months later.

A jury found Gillard guilty Monday, after a five-day trial, of possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute, possession of a weapon while in possession of a CDS, unlawful possession of a handgun.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 6.
