LITTLE EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — A Burlington County man has been charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon after a shooting during a party Saturday evening.

Brandon Murray, 21, of Medford, was attending a party at a home on Lake Michigan Drive in the Mystic Island section of Little Egg Harbor Township when something angered him, and he went to his car and retrieved a gun, township police Chief Richard Buzby said.

Murray returned to the party with the weapon and another unidentified guest attempted to stop him when the gun discharged, wounding Murray and 35-year-old Tim Colmyer, of Little Egg Harbor Township.

Murray was arrested at the home by Detective Sgt. Jeff Martin, Detective Ken Schilling, Sgt. Tom Thornton, Officers Matthew Kline and Tonya Anderson, Sgt. Scott Nino and Cpl. Chris Arciniegas.

“Officers were there within minutes and the guests were very helpful in Murray’s apprehension and stopping something worse from happening,” Buzby said Sunday evening.

Murray was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and possession of a weapon by certain persons prohibited from possessing a weapon, Buzby said. He is lodged in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River on $100,000 bail with no 10 percent option. Buzby said he could face additional charges, and the investigation is continuing.
