Middle Township has agreed to pay $35,000 to Lisa Tilton, a former Galloway Township clerk who sued Middle’s government and accused officials there of unfairly discriminating against her.

In an unsigned draft copy of the agreement the township provided to The Press of Atlantic City on Friday, the government concedes no liability. The agreement bars Tilton from pursuing any other action in the matter.

Tilton filed a tort claim with Middle in November after not being selected for an open township clerk position. Public emails among township officials indicated there were reservations about even interviewing Tilton because of her legal past in Galloway.

Tilton resigned from her position in Galloway in October 2011 and later sued the township claiming sexual harassment and release of her personal information in Open Public Meetings Act requests along with other accusations.

She reached a settlement in that case in December, in which the Galloway government agreed to pay her $250,000.
