Mourners attended the first of two viewings for Capt. David C. McAuliffe at George H. Wimberg Funeral Home in Linwood on Monday evening.

McAuliffe, the lead captain for Sea Tow's Atlantic City franchise, was aboard the Cape Hatteras when it sank east of the Great Egg Harbor Inlet on April 23, while he was trying to take the 49-foot vessel to Somers Point for an inspection in the midst of a storm.

The 34-year-old Egg Harbor Township resident was found last week on the beach in Ocean City.

The Coast Guard's investigation into the cause of the sinking is taking place at the Avalon Marine Center in Avalon.

Another viewing for McAuliffe is scheduled for 10 to 11 a.m. today at St. Joseph Church, 606 Shore Road, Somers Point. His funeral will take place immediately afterward.
