New Jersey Natural Gas crews have completed the repressurization of the gas main on Long Beach Island, and natural gas is now available to 12,564 customer's meters -- which is about 88 percent of the island -- an update from the utility this afternoon stated.

Crews are now completing meter work in the Holgate section of Long Beach Township, and rebuilding work is expected to be completed by Monday, the update said.

Long Beach Township Police Chief Michael Bradley said all island residents who received an electric space heater should return them if they are not using them to the township police headquarters. They will be sent to towns in the northern part of the county that remain without gas service.
