A new assemblyman for residents of Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties will be sworn in Thursday.

Sgt. Bob Andrzejczak, a resident of Middle Township and Iraq war veteran, had been named the successor to Democratic Assemblyman Matt Milam last month in a ceremony in Vineland, but his nomination was placed on hold because the local party leaders had not signed off on the appointment.

But the party leaders endorsed the 26-year-old in a meeting last week, according to a statement from the 1st District office. He will be sworn in Thursday.

"I am honored by everyone's support and to be a part of this legislative team. We have a lot of work ahead of us but I am up to the challenge. I will fight for this district just as hard as I fought for our country," Andrzejczak, who was awarded a purple heart and bronze star for his service, said in a statement.

Andrzejczak will be sworn in at about 1 p.m. in the Assembly Chambers when the legislators ave their voting session.
