The state Senate gave final legislative approval to a bill on Thursday that would permit a special beachfront horse race in Atlantic City next month.

Area lawmakers have hoped to introduce the American Palio to the region during Columbus Day weekend. Inspired by the medieval Palio di Siena in Italy, Atlantic City’s three-quarter mile race would look to draw horses and visitors to the event.

The Assembly did so on Tuesday and the Senate on Thursday.
