VINELAND — The new City Council held its first work session on Tuesday, and its major action was to change its future meeting times.

City Council opted to move the starting time for work sessions from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The time for the regular meeting will also change from 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The pre-meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

City Council President Anthony Fanucci said the change will reduce the burden on the public of having to attend meetings than can run late into the evening because of the amount of business that could be done.

Fanucci, Paul Spinelli, John Procopio, Angela Calakos and Maritza Gonzalez were also sworn in to office on Saturday. They won election to City Council during the Dec. 18 runoff election.

Also on Tuesday, new City Solicitor Richard Tonetta warned City Council members about doing business via cell phones and email.

Emails can be considered as official city documents, he said. An email sent to all City Council members regarding city business could also be determined as an official meeting of the panel, he said.

Tonetta told City Council members to only use their city government email for municipal business.
