NJ lottery annual sales grow to $2.7 billion

TRENTON, NJ –Lottery sales in New Jersey reached $2.7 billion over the last fiscal year, an increase of $121 million.

The increase in lottery sales meant $20 million more for New Jersey's budget.

In a press release Monday, The NJ Lottery said that its $950 million contributed to the state budget is fourth largest single source of revenue for New Jersey.

New Jersey Lottery Executive Director Carole Hedinger released the lottery's annual revenue distribution report Monday.

The revenue figures were for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2012.

According to the lottery, since 1971, proceeds from tickets has contributed nearly $21 billion in support of programs including: county college capital improvement initiatives; school nutrition efforts; the Marie Katzenbach School for the Deaf; the operation of centers for the developmentally disabled, state psychiatric hospitals and homes for veterans; higher education tuition and grants; and aid to colleges and universities.
