Northfield City Council President Lisa Brown will resign following the June 25 meeting after she moves out of the 1st Ward she represents.

Brown, elected in 2011 as one of the renegade “New Republicans” who have since taken over the city Republican Party, said the decision was “bittersweet.”

“I’m happy for my family, and we’ve been searching for a house for years,” Brown said. “I love dealing with the public and I love helping people.”

Details about who will replace her on council and the upcoming special election in November to fill the remainder of her term are still being worked out.
