OCEAN TOWNSHIP - A Waretown man died and his wife was injured after the bicycles they were riding were hit by a car on Main Street Sunday, Officer Steven Mandarine said.

Mandarine said that Jonathan Selleck, 26, of Barnegat, was driving a 2001 Audi TT south on Main Street, near Bryant Road, at about 7:30 p.m. when he hit the couple.

Ronald Rutan, 48, was pronounced dead at Southern Ocean Medical Center in Stafford Township.

Frances Rutan, 44, was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and was in stable condition, Mandarine said.

The Rutans were riding their bicycles south on Main Street when they were both hit by the Audi, Mandarine said.

Selleck's vehicle was towed away by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

The accident remains under investigation, but no charges have been filed.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (609) 693-4007.
