Police found that a large projectile was partially unearthed, but it appeared to be inert. It is unknown how or when the ordnance was placed onto the property, but police said it was uncovered when a relative of the land owner was metal detecting on the property.

Middle Township Police evacuated all residences in the immediate area of the ordnance and the Atlantic City Bomb Squad determined that the ordnance was a Howitzer 155. They then removed it to be destroyed.

Other agencies that assisted were the  State Police, the state Department of Transportation, the Green Creek Fire Department and

Rio Grande Rescue Squad.
