The Oyster Creek Generating Station was back at full capacity Tuesday evening following a six-week planned refueling and maintenance outage.

The nuclear power plant in Lacey Township, Ocean County, underwent the operation beginning Oct. 22 as more than 1,000 workers performed thousands of inspections and maintenance checks.

The crews replaced nearly one-third of the reactor’s fuel to keep the unit running for another two-year cycle.

Despite Hurricane Sandy and a northeaster, Site Vice President Mike Massaro said the employees and others worked “safely, professionally and with great dedication to assure that Oyster Creek remains a continued strong, viable source of power for our region.”
