PLEASANTVILLE - The city's redevelopment project, which has been pending until funding can be found, was awarded $470,000 Monday through two competitive New Jersey Department of Transportation grants.

The city announced the Transit Village Grant, totaling $250,000, and the Municipal Aid Grant, $220,090, will allow for roadway improvements along with crosswalks, tree planting and generally creating a pedestrian-friendly city with an efficient public transportation center.

The $150 million, 32-acre downtown redevelopment project includes plans for housing and retail space in the area of Main Street. Negotiations about the project began in 2007 with consistently changing deadlines for groundbreaking. A revised timeline has not been given while the city continues to seek funding.

Pleaseantville officials were not available Monday to provide details on the progress of the project.
