Rachael Highfield, 26, was struck by a car while she was walking at the intersection of Atlantic and Mississippi Avenues early morning on Aug. 23.

ATLANTIC CITY — Police have released the identity of a pedestrian killed by an allegedly drunken driver in Atlantic City last week.

Rachael Highfield, 26, of Farminton, Pa., was pronounced dead after being struck at 3:49 a.m. Friday at Mississippi and Atlantic avenues.

Highfield was living in Brigantine and working at Harrah’s Atlantic City.

The driver, Kenneth D. Barts, 21, of Egg Harbor Township, has been charged by police with reckless driving, driving while intoxicated and violation of a provisional driver’s license. Criminal charges are pending an investigation by Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Collisions Unit and Atlantic City police.

An autopsy was completed Friday.

Police were at the scene for more than three hours Friday.
