Authorities are investigating a possible heroin overdose in Sea Isle City Sunday.

Police were called to the 3700 block of Landis Avenue for a suspected overdose. When police arrived they found a dead person and numerous wax paper folds, consistent with the packaging of heroin, and additional drug paraphernalia near the body, according to a statement from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Sea Isle City Police Department.

No further information on the deceased was provided.

An autopsy was conducted on Tuesday by the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office and the cause of death is pending.

Authorities have been warning people about overdoses as there have been a series of incidents in the region in the past several months.

A 37-year-old woman was found dead in Avalon due to an apparent heroin overdose in early June.

Two weeks earlier there were three reported overdoses in Cape May County, including two deaths. In April, nine Ocean County residents died within eight days as the result of heroin overdoses.
