State and local police in Upper, Dennis and Middle townships have reported several thefts of commercial air conditioning units and copper piping and wiring since May 12.

Commercial buildings including businesses, medical offices and churches reported almost 20 stolen air conditioning units in the past month, said state police spokesman Sgt. Adam Grossman.

Upper Township reported 5 stolen units, Dennis Township reported 4 stolen units and Middle Township has reported 10 stolen units, he said.

Copper piping and wires have also been stolen in various locations throughout the area. Popular targets include Rt. 9, Tuckahoe Road, Cape May Court House, South Dennisville Road, Clermont Road, East Orchard Street and Dennis Creek Road, Grossman said.

Police recommend businesses utilize any alarm and surveillance systems available and remind owners to keep the area well lit at night.
