TRENTON- Proposed cuts to New Jersey's budget have cost the new Republican governor in the court of public opinion, although a new poll finds more voters than not continue to approve of the job he's doing.
A Fairleigh Dickinson University/PublicMind Poll out Tuesday finds 43 percent approve of the job Gov. Chris Christie is doing, compared with 32 percent who don't.
Christie's approval number was 10 points higher and his disapproval number 11 points lower before his March 16 budget address.
But 62 percent of those surveyed still say the state should "hold the line on spending even if many programs are reduced."
The poll of 802 registered voters statewide was conducted by phone March 23-28 and has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
