TRENTON— A new poll finds Gov. Chris Christie leads his likely Democratic challenger by 35 points.

The Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday shows 60 percent of registered voters back the popular Republican, while 25 percent support state Sen. Barbara Buono.

The poll also finds two-thirds of respondents say Christie deserves re-election.

And roughly the same number say they are comfortable electing an overweight candidate, compared with 17 percent who expressed reservations and 4 percent who say they are very uncomfortable.

Seventy percent of those surveyed say they are comfortable with a female candidate, while 4 percent have reservations and 2 percent are very uncomfortable.

The telephone survey of 1,129 registered voters was conducted March 19-24 with an error margin of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
