A Pleasantville man has been charged with a fatal Christmas Eve shooting at the Marina Del Ray Apartments.

Authorities arrested Lenny R. Ross Jr., 29, about 7 p.m. Thursday on the 1100 block of Baltic Avenue in Atlantic City on murder and weapons charges in connection with the death of Stephen Gurss Jr., 28, of Somers Point.

On Dec. 24, 2011, police responded to a shooting outside the Marina Del Ray Apartments on Atlantic Avenue. When they arrived, they discovered Gurss in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Gurss was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, where he was pronounced dead the next morning.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit and Pleasantville police conducted an investigation into Gurss’ murder, which led to Ross being charged.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit, the Atlantic City Police Department Special Investigations Unit and the Atlantic City Task Force made the arrest.

Ross was taken into custody and lodged in the Atlantic County jail on $1 million bail set by Superior Court Judge Bernard E. DeLury.

He was charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon by a convicted person.

Ross made a first appearance in court Friday afternoon before Superior Court Judge Michael A. Donio. Chief Assistant Prosecutor John Maher represented the state.
