Live racing is canceled at the Atlantic City Race Course and some area streets have flooded as heavy rain pummels the area.
Minor power outages have been reported throughout the area. The race date will not be made up. The Black Horse Pike in West Atlantic City was briefly down to one lane in each direction this morning due to flooding but is now open for all lanes.
Rains are expected to continue throughout the day today and thunderstorms are possible, according to the National Weather Service office in Mt. Holly. Gusts of up to 45 miles per hour are possible and A flood advisory is in effect until 1:15 p.m. today.
The area had received more than an inch of rain by 10 a.m. and another inch or more is expected to fall by this afternoon.
Winds are currently in the high teens and are expected to reach the low 20s this evening, and rain is likely tonight as well.
Further showers are likely Thursday with a possibility of thunderstorms before 2 p.m., and the strong winds are forecast to continue.
High temperatures are expected to be in the 60s today and may reach the low 70s Thursday. Friday will be mostly sunny with a high near 70 and winds of eight to 16 miles per hour.
Motorists are urged to avoid floodwaters and be cautious on the roadways.
