During the 1970s, when legalized casino gambling was in doubt and Atlantic City was struggling, a popular saying emerged: "the last person out of town, turn off the lights."

As Hurricane Irene dumped rain and wind on the region Saturday, knocking out power to more than 100,000 Atlantic City Electric customers, a video camera captured the lights going out in Atlantic City - in one neighborhood, anyway.

The camera is operated by a city resident who posts emergency updates online, under the Twitter handle AtlanticCity911.

The video shows flickering and flashes followed by darkness - with one solitary light remaining at the top of an apartment building. The lights go out 33 seconds into the video.
