ABSECON - A fire on the roof, above the entrance, of the Mt. Fuji Japanese Restaurant, located at 136 White Horse Pike, was reported at about 1:20 a.m. today.

Emergency response saw the roof engulfed in flames, along with a neon sign near the front entrance, police said.

The restaurant was closed at the time, and no other property was damaged, police said. The fire was extinguished quickly.

Only one lane of westbound traffic was open on the White Horse Pike for about an hour.

The case is still under investigation.

Public health officials will assess the damage today to determine if the restaurant is allowed to open for business, police said.
