Richard Stockton College in Galloway Township will host a job fair for veterans from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at its Campus Center.

The event is co-sponsored by the Atlantic County Office of Veterans Services and U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo, R-2nd. More than 40 exhibitors and employers will be accepting applications, and some will be hiring on the spot.

Registered participants include: New Jersey State Police, Hi-Tec Systems, the U.S. Navy, Atlantic County One Stop, Social Security Administration, Stockton School of Education, the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, the VA Medical Center in Wilmington, Lowe’s, Atlantic City Linen Supply, Community Quest, Atlantic Cape Community College, Operation College Promise, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Tropicana Casino and Resort, Comcast and VIP Careers.

Stockton is among nine colleges in New Jersey to sign the national “Got Your 6” pledge to support veterans on their campuses.

Commitments from about 40 colleges were unveiled at a reception last week in Washington, D.C., announcing the Education Pillar, one of the six pillars of the “Got Your 6” movement.

The Student Veterans of America, Operation College Promise and the Pat Tillman Foundation are working to get 500 pledges from colleges to provide resources, programs and policies to support veterans.

“Higher education will play a critical role helping service members to prepare for careers as they return home and transition to civilian life,” said George A. Pruitt, president of Thomas Edison State College.

Edison, which offers online degree programs, has the largest military and veteran student population in New Jersey. About 15,000 students with military affiliations attend the nine participating colleges.

The other five pillars are jobs, health, housing, family and leadership. More information is online at www.gotyour6.org
