The South Jersey Transportation Authority has begun a year-long countdown to the 50th anniversary of the Atlantic City Expressway.

On Wednesday, a countdown clock was installed at the Farley Service Plaza to count down to the anniversary date on July 31, 2014. Displays will change to reflect facts about the roadway.

Construction of the expressway began in 1962 with the total cost of the project totaling just more than $48 million.
