VINELAND – A brief instance of arachnophobia left a 17-year-old local boy with a traffic ticket on Friday.

City police said Anthony Battistini, of Cornucopia Avenue, was traveling west on School Lane around 4:50 p.m. when he noticed a spider on his head rest.

Battistini admitted to being afraid of spiders, so he tried to smack the spider off the head rest, police said. Battistini said he became nervous, took his eyes off the road and collided with a parked vehicle on Brewster Road while trying to remove the spider, police said.

Battistini was issued a summons for careless driving, police said.
