The area’s newest assemblyman was officially sworn in on Thursday.

Sgt. Bob Andrzejczak, a resident of Middle Township and Iraq war veteran, had been named the successor to Democratic Assemblyman Matt Milam last month in a ceremony in Vineland, but his nomination was placed on hold because the local party leaders had not signed off on the appointment.

But the leaders agreed on the nomination last week and the 26-year-old was sworn in at Trenton by Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver Thursday.

“I am extremely grateful for this opportunity,” said Andrzejczak, D-Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, in a statement. “There is a great deal of work that needs to be done but I am up for the challenge. I'm particularly interested in helping our veterans and creating more opportunities for working people in South Jersey. I will fight as hard for the first district as I did for our country.”
