A Stafford Township man was sentenced Friday on a vehicular homicide charge in the death of 76-year-old Michael Grosso of Barnegat Township.

As part of a plea agreement, Robert Kusznikow, 27, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Francis Hodgson to seven years in prison. Kusznikow must serve 85 percent of that sentence before he is released.

Kusznikow struck and killed Grosso on Sept. 21, 2011, while he was unloading the back of his truck, which was parked legally on Mermaid Drive in the Ocean Acres section of Stafford Township.

Assistant Prosecutor Steve Cucci handled the case.

On May 21, Kusznikow pleaded guilty to the second-degree charge, as well as guilty to his third DWI charge, based on his use of prescription drugs the day of the fatal crash. Authorities said Grosso’s family agreed to Kusznikow's plea deal.

Kusznikow has been in the Ocean County jail in Toms River since December 2011.
