STAFFORD TOWNSHIP— Police here have released the identity of a man who died during a motor vehicle accident last Saturday.
Township Police said this afternoon that Thomas Litwin, 44, of the Beach Haven West section of the township died during the crash on Mill Creek Road near Bank of America last Saturday at 7 p.m. Litwin was a recent independent township mayoral candidate in the General Election, challenging incumbent Mayor John Spodofora.
Police said Litwin was transporting himself to Southern Ocean Medical Center after experiencing chest pains. While driving, Litwin suffered a medical episode resulting in his vehicle leaving the roadway and crashing into a small wooded area, a news release stated.
Litwin was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center where he was pronounced dead and authorities have determined that the crash was not a contributing factor to Litwin’s death.
In August, Litwin was arrested by the Stafford Township Police Department's Drug Enforcement Unit after allegedly selling marijuana to undercover police officers. The township’s unit had previously conducted undercover narcotic purchases from Litwin, police said.
After police conducted a search warrant at his home, he was charged with distribution of marijuana to an undercover police officer, possession of marijuana over 50 grams, possession of synthetic cannabinoids and possession of CDS paraphernalia.
