State Police had to corral four horses along the Atlantic City Expressway this evening.

Trooper Scott Farkas of the Atlantic City Expressway barracks said three adult horses and a pony wandered onto the expressway around 6 p.m. near milepost 40 in Winslow Township.

Troopers arrived and controlled the horses until the owners arrived with a trailer and took them away, he said. The scene was cleared before 7 p.m., he said.

Police did not have to close any lanes and no injuries were reported, Farkas said. The horses did not walk onto the highway but just “wandered around” the shoulder, he said.
