Two alleged burglars were caught by Bridgeton police after officers spotted them attempting to cash in a jar of change that was stolen from a house.

Police responded to a home on Highland Avenue at 11 a.m. Wednesday after the homeowner reported more than $3,000 in jewelry, game system components and a jar of change were missing from the house.

Police relayed the information to officers, and Sgt. Angel Santiago saw Hasaan Clark, 25, of Giles Street, entering the TD Bank on Laurel Street with a jar of change matching the description of the one reported stolen.

Clark was detained and the jar of change was identified. Police said Clark also had possession of cocaine and heroine.

Police also arrested Kirone J. Davenport Sr., 42, of East Broad Street, who had additional stolen items from the property, police said.

Both suspects were initially charged with possession of the stolen property, and Clark was charged with possession of heroin and cocaine. Police said burglary and conspiracy charges are pending the completion of their investigation.

Both suspects were transported to Cumberland County Jail. Clark's bail is set at $20,000 cash and Davenport's bail is set at $2,500 cash.
