A man was injured Sunday afternoon after swimming into a boat propeller, police said.

The incident took place shortly after 2:30 p.m. when the man tried to swim around the back of the boat off of the Inlet beach, Brigantine Police Lt. Tim Reed said.

The propeller wasn’t running at the time, but the swimmer's leg was gashed about 5 inches, Reed said.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.
