ATLANTIC CITY — A propane tank explosion blew out two walls of a storage area at the Flyers Skate Zone in Chelsea Heights.

There were no injuries and no evacuations were necessary because the area is separate from where the public skates, Fire Chief Dennis Brooks said.

Firefighters were called at about 10:30 a.m.

The gas tank of a Zamboni appears to have exploded, Brooks said.

"All these fumes had probably been building up in here and it caught fire," he said.

Two walls —one facing east and one facing west — were damaged.

It took about 20 to 25 minutes to get under control, Brooks said.

Ventilation is usually a concern, but "it kind of self-ventilated," he said of the damaged walls.

Now, they will make sure any electrical or gas lines that may have been in those walls are OK, he said.
