The second day of the New Jersey Conference on Tourism has begun at Golden Nugget Atlantic City.

Grace Hanlon, executive director of the New Jersey Department of Travel and Tourism, started Thursday's sessions by briefly discussing the state's 2012 tourism statistics address yesterday by Gov. Chris Christie.

The average overnight leisure visitor to the state stays an average of 2.6 nights, which is slightly below average in the United States. Moving forward, Hanlon said the state needs to focus on diversifying the areas from which the state draws its visitors and ensuring they stay longer.

Later in the day, former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski, who owns South Jersey golf courses including Blue Heron Pines Golf Club in Galloway Township, is scheduled to speak.
