MIDDLE TOWNSHIP – A two-vehicle crash left one man dead Wednesday night, police said in a press release.

Police said the crash took place at about 5 p.m. on State Highway 47 in the Goshen section of the township. Responding officers discovered a head-on crash with both cars in the southbound lane.

Police said a black Dodge Charger was travelling north, but then left the north bound lane and struck a ford Taurus which was travelling south.

A witness on scene indicated the Charger traveled north from the Rio Grande area, police said.

Cape May Court House and Goshen Fire companies responded to the scene, and extricated the driver, whose name has not yet been released, from the Taurus. Middle Township EMS and medics from AtlantiCare Medic 9 transported the driver to AtlantiCare Medical Center in Atlantic City. The driver was pronounced dead at AtlantiCare Medical Center.

The police department is looking for witnesses that may have observed the Charger traveling north around 5:00 p.m. The driver of that vehicle was identified as Robert J. Demarco, 29, of Williamstown.

The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Fatal Crash Unit responded to the scene, and is assisting Middle Township Major Crime detectives with the investigation. Charges are pending at this time.
