Two Pennsylvania residents were arrested Tuesday night after one allegedly drove drunk onto the Ocean City Boardwalk and then crashed on the beach.

Ocean City police said Christian Winzcuk, 21, of Philadelphia, and Hyeyeon Ju, 46, of Jenkintown, Pa., were walking on the beach at night when they lost a cellphone on the sand.

Winzcuk then drove onto the Boardwalk to use the headlights to help them find the phone. However, when trying to drive the car off the boardwalk, near 22nd Street, he lost control and, instead, went through a railing on to the beach. The car came to a rest on its side in the sand.

About 25 feet of railing and board decking were damaged during the accident. Both suspects were taken to the hospital for evaluation, then taken into custody.

Reports Tuesday night identified Ju as the driver, however police said Wednesday that Winzcuk was the driver.

Winzcuk was charged with hindering apprehension, falsely incriminating another, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle and driving a motor vehicle on the Boardwalk.

Ju was charged with allowing an intoxicated person to drive, hindering apprehension and having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.
