An Egg Harbor Township woman was charged with child endangerment and aggravated assault after she allegedly beat a 17-day-old baby Tuesday, officials said.
A passing motorist saw Tatiana Vorobev, 29, striking the baby girl in front of a residence on the 5000 block of Ridge Avenue at about 2 p.m., the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said. The motorist stopped and was able to remove the baby from Vorobev and secure her until police arrived.
Egg Harbor Township police allegedly found Vorobev unclothed in front of the residence.
She did not comply with the officer’s commands and “began flailing her body and resisting arrests,” acting Prosecutor Jim McClain said. During the course of the arrest, Vorobev struck one of the officers, he said.
Vorobev was taken into custody and transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, in Atlantic City. The child was transported to Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Del., for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Vorobev was charged with second-degree aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child, in addition to fourth-degree charges of child abuse, aggravated assault of a police officer and resisting arrest, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
She will be held at the Atlantic County jail in lieu of $75,000 cash bail pending her release from AtlantiCare.
