Ventnor police arrested a man who allegedly tried to use his pit bull to rob a home.

Saleem Ali, 53, of Ventnor, was arrested on charges of burglary, obstruction and violation of city laws regarding animals after police responded to a burglary in progress at an apartment on the 200 block of North Princeton Avenue.

The victim told police Ali confronted him with a large pit bull. The victim then locked himself in a bedroom and called police.

Officers arrived at the home and surrounded it until Ali came out and was arrested, police said.

Authorities also removed the animal from the scene.

Ali was transported to Atlantic County jail on $25,000 bail.
