A Meet the Candidates and question-and-answer session involving those running for Atlantic County freeholder and 2nd District state Legislature will be held Saturday afternoon in Mays Landing.

The VFW will host the event at 2 p.m. at the Post 220 building on 1209 Route 50.

The six candidates for the Atlantic County freeholder board and the candidates for 2nd District state Senate and Assembly seats have all been invited and will be given an opportunity to introduce themselves and answer questions from a moderator.

Afterward the candidates will be asked to meet and greet with members of the public.

The freeholders running for election in November include three races: for freeholder at large, Democrat Bard L. Shober will face Republican William Pauls; in District 1, Democrat Ernest D. Coursey Sr. will face Republican John Bettis; and in District 4, Republican Rich Dase will face Democrat Brandi C. Endicott.

In the legislative races, Democratic state Sen. Jim Whelan will face Republican challenger Atlantic County Sheriff Frank Balles, while Republican Assemblymen John Amodeo and Chris Brown will debate their Democratic challengers, Longport Mayor Nick Russo and Northfield Mayor Vince Mazzeo.
