VINELAND – City police say they have charged a local man with allegedly having a fake firearm at a school here.

Jose Cordoves was found to have the imitation firearm at the Anthony Rossi Intermediate School on Palermo Avenue on June 12, police charge.

Cordoves, 55, of the 400 block of North 7th Street, allegedly possessed what police called an airsoft gun. That is a special type of air gun that usually fires either plastic or environmentally-safe pellets.

Cordoves is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. He was also cited in connection with outstanding warrants from municipal courts here and in Franklin Township, Gloucester County.

Police said Cordoves was released on his own recognizance for the local charges. He was then taken to Franklin Township for disposition of the warrant issued out of that municipality’s court.
