Vineland police are searching for a man who allegedly shot a city resident in the right foot Friday night on Cherry Street.

“We’re looking for a Puerto Rican male. He is considered armed and dangerous. We are interviewing witnesses in the neighborhood,” Lt. David Cardana said Saturday afternoon.

Cardana said the 18-year-old male victim was an innocent bystander who was sitting on a front porch when he was shot. The victim, whom Cardana declined to identify pending the continued investigation, was taken to South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center, but the wound was not considered serious.

Police were called to a disturbance on the 800 block of Cherry Street at 8:28 p.m. Cardana said the victim was not involved in the disturbance.

“We’re very close to identifying the accused and to making an arrest,” Cardana said.
