It was a tense few months of having to drive elsewhere to get hoagies and coffee, but the Wawa stores on the barrier islands are slowly reopening.

Stores in Margate and at West Avenue in Ocean City reopened today for the first time since they suffered damaged during Hurricane Sandy.

Meanwhile, the Avalon location will open next Thursday, and stores in Long Beach Township and Ship Bottom that are scheduled to open in early to mid-March.

The store on Washington Avenue in Margate opened two weeks earlier than scheduled said Wawa, Inc., spokeswoman Lori Bruce.
