Reports of mist and fog during morning hours, followed by an evening of heavy rains is predicted by the National Weather Service as a severe storm system heads towards the east coast of the U.S.

NWS observing program director Jim Bunker said the morning would be cloudy and drizzly, with showers in the afternoon.

It will be a breezy day with wind gusts up to 75 mph, he said. Temperatures will remain above 50 degrees into the night.

The storm will reach the shore about midnight with heavy rainfall, Bunker said.

The storm system that has been making its way east from the Midwest may weaken, but it looks like it will still bring showers with embedded thunderstorms to the area, Bunker said.
