People who want to meet the candidates for Congress in the 2nd Congressional District will get one of their only chances Tuesday night at the Wetlands Institute in Middle Township.
All six candidates are expected to be on hand for a meet-the-candidates night, sponsored by the Cape May County League of Women Voters.
Cape May County’s freeholder and surrogate candidates are also expected to attend.
Republican U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo declined a proposed debate in September with his Democrat challenger, Cassandra Shober. His campaign said she was not a serious candidate and said LoBiondo would continue to engage voters in a variety of ways.
Corinne Robinson, the league’s voter services director, said all of the candidates will be given five to seven minutes to talk about their platforms tonight, then take questions from the audience. She expects the event, which is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., will last about an hour.
It will not be a debate, she said.
“We did try to set a debate up, but Mr. LoBiondo’s chief campaign aide contacted us early on and said that they were not having a debate.”
