Stone Harbor fire officials say that high winds ripped a roof of the Sanderling Condominiums this afternoon.

The wind has also driven down utility poles along Stone Harbor Boulevard, which was closed as a result.

Stone Harbor Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 reported the incident a little before 1 p.m. on its Facebook page.

The building, located at 96th Street and First Avenue, suffered major damage and had to be evacuated. Gas and electrical service were also shut off, the company reported.

The fire company's weather equipment recorded a 58 mph wind gust today.
