BRIDGETON — Police said they arrested a city resident Sunday who is accused of striking a man in the face with a claw hammer.

Police said they went to a home on South Pine Street shortly after 3 a.m. and found a man bleeding from facial injuries.

The victim reported that David Blake Sr. had come to his home and struck with him the hammer, police said.

Blake left the house on foot and was found and arrested near Broad and Pine streets, they said.

When police arrested him, he had a claw hammer with what appeared to be blood on it, along with a butcher-style knife, police said.

Blake, 44, of Burlington Manor in Bridgeton, was charged with one count of aggravated assault and single counts of unlawful possession of a weapons and possession of weapons for an unlawful purpose.

He was also charged in connection with outstanding child support, they said. Blake was in the Cumberland County jail in Bridgeton on bail set at $144,018.

The victim was taken to Inspira Medical Center in Vineland police said.
