Two people died from drug overdoses this weekend in Wildwood and Lower Township, Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor said Monday.

In a statement, Taylor said that police investigated several reported drug overdoses between Friday and Sunday, including two overdoses that resulted in deaths.

The first fatality occurred in Wildwood on Friday when a 19-year-old female was found dead in a rooming house in Wildwood.

Taylor said, “Indications and observations revealed the female’s death may have been the result of a possible drug overdose.” An autopsy is scheduled.

The second death took place Sunday in Lower Township when police discovered a 54-year-old woman dead. The woman, from the Rio Grande section of Middle Township, apparently died from a heroin overdose. An autopsy is also pending.

Wildwood police are also investigating a third incident in which a 58-year-old man was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment Saturday. Police learned that the man, a resident of Cape May, had purchased and ingested heroin prior to becoming ill.

Taylor said the investigations are all ongoing and any information from the public is welcome.

“The Prosecutor’s Office along with local municipalities throughout the county are aggressively investigating the large influx of drug-related overdoese specifically with heroin in Cape May County,” Taylor said.
